Project Contents
As part of its drive to construct a healthy and balanced society, China is currently seeking to lay down policies focused on citizens' welfare. Of particular concern are regional reconstruction, vitalization of communities with citizens at the forefront, maintenance of health among citizens at the regional level, and improvements to perceived quality of life. In this project, specialists in community building from Kumamoto University will use their experience in conducting 'Healthy City Building' activities to support health education for Chinese citizens, in collaboration with local governments, universities, health and welfare institutions and local residents. The regions addressed in this project will be agricultural communities in and around Kumamoto's sister city, Guilin. It is hoped that through collaboration between China and Japan the project will promote construction of healthy communities, provide regional communities with the tools to maintain their health, and spread information about citizen participation-type models for construction of healthy communities.
Implementation Plan
In the second year of this three-year project, the following activities will be carried out.
  • Dispatch of specialists to China
    • Experts from Kumamoto University and Japanese NPO representatives will be dispatched to China to lecture at intensive short-term health education seminars for citizen volunteers in Guilin City.
    • As part of the various health education activities conducted in the region, events will be held for health volunteers from Guilin, Shanghai, and Kumamoto, with the cooperation of the Guilin Health Bureau and various administrative organizations.
  • Baseline surveys in agricultural regions
A team comprised of Chinese and Japanese specialists and health volunteers from Guilin will conduct several baseline surveys of the living environment, lifestyle, and specific health needs of the local citizens targeted in this project. The target region for the surveys will be Long Sheng Province, an agricultural region near Guilin. Findings will be compiled into a survey report.
