In this project, outstanding students of the Japanese language from regional universities in China will be given opportunities to study in Japan. Universities less privileged in terms of their exchange programs with Japan will be specifically targeted. The main aims of the project are to provide inspiration to students of the Japanese language throughout China, contribute to Japanese language education at regional universities, and foster individuals with the potential to contribute to Japan-China relations in future years.
Implementation Plan
This year, the following activities will be carried out, targeting universities mainly in South West China.
- Preliminary survey and trainee selection:
A preliminary survey will be conducted from April to May in order to ascertain the status of Japanese language education in universities in the target regions and their exchange, if any, with Japan. Twenty-one students and one guidance officer will then be selected from universities chosen on the basis of the survey results. This group of twenty-two individuals, plus one member of the China Education Association for International Exchange, will visit Japan to receive training. - Pre-departure preparations:
An inauguration event will be held in Beijing in August for the 22 participants from regional universities and one representative from the China Education Association. Over the course of two days, the group will be briefed on background knowledge with regard to the implementing organization, the institution where the group will be resident during the training, and important information about Japan. - Training in Japan:
The training, which will take place in summer, will be outsourced to the Waseda University Center for International Education (CIE). While staying at lodging facilities provided by the University, the trainees will engage in a training program created by the university. The training program will comprise: (1) a 3-week Japanese language language training course, (2) special lectures on the politics, economy, society and culture of Japan, (3) exchange with Japanese students at Waseda University's communal lodging facility, (4) educational visits to historic locations in Tokyo, Hiroshima and Kansai, (5) trips to inspect various regions and (6) a general assembly prior to departure. - Follow-up:
Articles written by project participants about their experience of training in Japan will be compiled into a booklet. In addition, a register will be created detailing the name, affiliation and post-graduation contact details of the participants.
