Guidelines

For a five year period, beginning in 2009, the Sasakawa Pan Asia Fund will maintain its commitment to promoting exchange programs as well as developing human resources, while positioning CLMV countries and South Asia at the forefront of its activities.

1. Promotion of people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Asian countries
1-1 Exchanges of future leaders

The Fund wishes to promote mutual understanding and networking among young professionals with the potential to become leaders of the next generation. This can be achieved by inviting future leaders to Japan to discuss issues of common concern or providing opportunities for group work in a remote setting.

1-2 Invitation of opinion leaders

The Fund will invite opinion leaders from the Asian region to Japan. These guests will have a variety of meetings with policy makers, business leaders, researchers, and civic participants. Through these exchanges, the Fund hopes that the guests will gain knowledge and understanding about Japan, in addition to building networks among themselves.

2. Promotion of regional collaboration

The Fund will support or implement projects that study innovative ways in which regional collaboration or unification can be further promoted.

3. Support to prioritized countries
3-1 Support to CLMV countries

The Fund maintains its effort to develop human resources in the field of civic services, higher education and research, media, and others in countries mainly of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. The Fund also seeks ways of promoting public-private cooperation for economic development at a grass roots level, while it encourages other Asian countries to share their experiences.

3-2 Support to South Asia

The Fund supports projects to enhance mutual understanding between Japan and South Asian countries. In particular, it underwrites efforts to develop solid foundations for mutual collaboration and encourages dialogue among intellectuals in Japan and India.
